Keys To Invoking Lakshmi

In Tantric mantra practice, the keys refer to specific elements that can enhance the effect of mantras. These keys are direction, bija, and the deity's name. Each of these elements plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the practice, and understanding them can significantly improve your Tantric mantra practice.  

Our experience of teaching Tantric practice over four decades has led us to a significant realization: the clarity of our perspective is as important as our actual practices. This understanding can enlighten and empower you, as it reveals that if the underlying message of our practice is muddled, no amount of effort will yield the desired results, leading to disappointment and frustration.

In this blog, we delve into invoking the goddess Lakshmi for abundance. Amidst the plethora of information (and misinformation) out there, the application of the 3 keys, by themselves, can indeed help with our manifestation process, reassuring and boosting our confidence in the spiritual journey. However, we encourage you to adopt a more holistic, integrated approach.

Lakshmi is a goddess of the hearth and home, as much as she is a goddess of the heart and OM. Knowing Her cannot happen all at once. You will need to court Lakshmi, woo her into your heart and home, and then work hard to keep her there. It takes effort and application to master the practices and gain understanding while, at the same time, engaging in dynamic self-transformation. 

What are you asking for?

If all you ask of consciousness is something simple, then simple practices will accomplish it. Or, if you ask for something big, but you are pure, then it will manifest effortlessly. The vast majority of humans are neither simple nor pure—further, the sense of lack that advertisements and the media reinforce many of us. On top of that, there are financial and emotional stresses. There are ways to address this complexity.

One way to invoke Lakshmi is to know her as an aspect of the Supreme Shakti, like a vast ocean. We want to approach her with integrity and through a holistic methodology. Trying to extract the wealth or tap into the ocean's wealth without respecting the sea is not how we would go about the process for long-term success. It is akin to companies that suck the oil off our ocean floor or violate our gorgeous planet without respect for how the entire ecosystem functions harmoniously.

For those who wish to cultivate a deeper understanding of Lakshmi and learn how to grow in one's knowledge of the nature of abundance, the way is through understanding the nature of abundance consciousness and how to cultivate it. In other words, if you trivialize what Lakshmi represents, then what you tap and what you experience will be mediocre at best. Deeper levels of understanding and practice require a more profound knowledge of Lakshmi and the tradition she emerges within.

Pursuing an integrated approach

It is best to pursue an integrated approach to Lakshmi, one that is esoteric, therapeutic, and mystical. Our Yogic Mystery School offers such an integrated system. In the context of such an integrated system, we would not seek material wealth by itself, that is, in isolation of the whole. If approached in this way, Lakshmi is more elusive than anyone can imagine. Instead, we would seek health, financial freedom, enhanced spiritual awareness, emotional healing, transforming negative tendencies, and other similar aspects simultaneously. 

Suppose we don't want to change ourselves into better humans, to make ourselves worthy of what we are asking. In that case, our practice will turn out to be an exploitation of the Shakti. While there may be some short-term achievements, a long-term engagement that involves profound levels of transformation and spiritual awakening will elude us.

Courting Lakshmi or any goddess using only the esoteric practices' power without engaging the self-transformation discipline is unhealthy. It is also unlikely that you will get the results you want in a way that satisfies all parts of you. In other words, your manifestation process will exact compensations from areas of your life, your relationships, and aspects of your consciousness that you treasured earlier. Be mindful that all spiritual practice requires an exchange: you cannot expect to receive without giving or succeed without failing. Know what you are willing to offer in exchange for what you wish to receive.

For a healthy and holistic approach, esoteric practices are combined with the right kinds of foods, mental habits, behavior, thinking, sleep, exercise, and other aspects of healthy living. Furthermore, we must apply ourselves with self-transformation while we seek to manifest what we desire. Engaging in dynamic self-improvement while studying and implementing esoteric practices is the approach used by Yogic Mystery School. 

Ask yourself if you are willing to engage wholeheartedly in the process of your transformation as you set clear goals for cultivating abundance consciousness. Abundance consciousness is a state of mind where you believe in the abundance of resources and opportunities in the universe, and it is a key aspect of the Tantric practice of invoking Lakshmi.

Nevertheless, it is entirely possible to use verbal affirmations, visualizations, and mantra meditations to create your abundance.

Here are three powerful keys to invoke Lakshmi:

1) North is the direction of wealth. Face north when you invoke Lakshmi

2) śṛīṁ (shreem) is Lakshmi's secret energy syllable. Use it to invoke her.

3) om śṛīṁ mahālakṣmyai namaḥ is a Lakshmi mantra. Recite it in your practice.  

And here are some tips for your mantra practice:

Be clear about what you want and why. Build your sadhana around this.

Consider what you are willing to give in exchange for what you wish to receive.

Decide on the number of recitations and number of days for the sadhana.

Ideally, choose the same time of day, everyday, for your mantra sadhana.
